 Presenters and Panel Members - April 26th

Robert Bronk , CEO Ontario Construction Secretariat

Robert was appointed CEO for the Ontario Construction Secretariat in October of 2017. He brought with him a degree in civil engineering from Queen’s University, and an MBA from the University of Toronto.
He has enjoyed many fond memories and relationships during his time at the OCS engaging with various industry stakeholders throughout the province.  He is proud of the events and resources his team at the OCS have created that have proven to be relevant and pragmatic to its industry partners.  With the direction and support of the OCS Board of Directors he is excited about new initiatives currently being planned that arose from the latest strategic planning session.
Robert is an active member in his community, volunteering at a local food bank, as well as with Meals on Wheels.  Robert was born in Winnipeg and moved to Toronto in the 1980s to play for the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts, winning the Grey Cup in 1983.  He is a proud father of 4 children, and grandfather to three young grandkids, with one more on the way.

Melissa Aveiro, Business Advisor, MNP

Melissa is a Business Advisor with MNP in London and leads the region’s Tax Services and Real Estate and Construction groups. A trusted business advisor, Melissa brings more than a two decades of experience advising a wide range of clients, including owner-managed businesses and multinational corporations, to her role.
Closely involved in a family business through her husband’s general construction company, Melissa brings a wealth of practical advice to the table. She advises clients on estate planning, tax minimization strategies, business succession, and corporate and personal tax compliance. Melissa is particularly experienced in the real estate and construction, technology and manufacturing sectors.
T ed Dreyer, LLP Bennett Grant

Ted is a partner at the firm. He practices construction law, insurance law, and municipal liability defence. He handles lien claims, trust claims, delay claims, deficiency claims, contract disputes, insurance coverage disputes, insurance defence, and building code claims.
Ted is the past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Grand Valley Construction Association.  He is also an executive director of the Council of Ontario Construction Associations (COCA).  Ted is also the chair of COCA's Construction Lien Task Force.  In 2015 and 2017 COCA awarded him the Cliff Bulmer award for his outstanding contribution to furthering the relationship between the construction industry and the Ontario government.
Ted is certified by the Ontario Dispute Adjudication for Construction Contracts (ODACC) as an adjudicator for the purpose of the Construction Act.
Manav Singhla, LLP, Miller Thompson
Manav Singhla has an active construction litigation and commercial litigation practice. He focuses on providing practical, business-oriented, and cost-effective legal solutions to his clients through negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and litigation. Manav’s goal is to be a trusted adviser to his clients.
Manav advises and advocates for owners, general contractors, subcontractors, and material suppliers on a range of construction-related matters including construction liens; claims for breach of contract, breach of trust, negligence and delay; and insolvency and bankruptcy matters in the context of construction projects.
Manav also maintains a broad commercial litigation practice in which he acts for clients on debt recovery, shareholder disputes, real property disputes, defamation matters, trademark litigation, condominium litigation, torts, and general contract disputes.
Manav received his Juris Doctorate from Queen’s University in 2013. While at law school, Manav volunteered as a caseworker at Queen’s Legal Aid and served as President of the Society of Asians in Law. Manav also participated in an internship with the United Nations Development Programme in Thailand.
Prior to studying law, Manav obtained his Honours Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a Certificate in Global Management from the Richard Ivey School of Business and worked as an analyst for a multinational human resource consulting firm

 Amir Shenouda, President S.E.M. Construction

Amir moved to Canada from his home country of Egypt nearly 21 years ago with a dream of becoming successful, starting a family and instilling successful values in his children. He graduated from Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alexandria. Over the years, Amir has owned and operated a variety of companies in different yet related industries ultimately leading to the incorporation of S.E.M Construction in September 2008. Now, 15 years later, S.E.M Construction employs over 30 individuals and has built a solid reputation for integrity, professionalism and value. Amir currently sits on the Board of Directors for the London & District Construction Association and St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation. He also runs a Christian faith based Western student youth group which has been active for 8 years. Previously, Amir sat on the Board of Directors for St. Paul the Anchorite for seven years.

I am a partner at Advocates LLP, where I practice primarily as a construction litigator representing general contractors, subcontractors and engineers in all manner of disputes from pre-contractual tender issues to post-contraction claims.

I am an LL.B and M. Sc graduate of the University of Western Ontario

David Frame, Executive Director League of Champions 

David Frame operates Frame GR, a consulting firm providing government relations and workplace safety services to the construction industry.
David serves as the Executive Director of the League of Champions, an industry group supporting health and safety excellence in the construction industry.
He was most recently (September 2022 to November 2023) Director of Government Relations and Business Development with the IHSA.
From 2010 to 2022 he was Director of Government Relations with the Ontario General Contractors Association (OGCA). He is a former Director of Prevention at the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) and was previously President of The Council of Ontario Construction Associations (COCA).

Lianne Armstrong, LLP Lerners 

Lianne Armstrong is a partner at Lerners LLP. Lianne, who specializes in commercial litigation, has been a lawyer since 1998.

Lianne is a construction law practitioner and her areas of professional focus include Construction Law, Construction Lien Disputes, Construction Deficiencies & Breach of Contract Disputes, Bankruptcy and Insolvency, and Business and Contractual Disputes.

Lianne is a Director at the LDCA and is also President of the London-Middlesex Law Association.
